After you have determined that you are ready to begin your Wholistic Wellness journey, whether it be on the path of Tantric Wellness or another, and confirmed your initial session with your practitioner you might choose to consciously and deliberately prepare for your Tantric Wellness time and practice.
Whether you have practiced before or are embarking on this practice for the first time you might find the following information helpful:
Determine a time in which to devote to the more ceremonial or ritualistic (routine) parts of your practice. Consider how frequently and for what duration you may desire to perform/implement practices such as conscious breathing, prayer, meditation, journaling, yoga/physical activity. Side Note: to practice a minimum of 20 minutes at the start/end of each day can assist in making your personal practice consistent and part of your lifestyle.
Designate a space in which to regularly practice applications. This space should have the below mentioned characteristics.
- peace filled, calm, quiet and free of disturbance
- private, supportive and conflict free
- set up your alter (optional)
- clean, clutter free and organized (might have a box or basket to host needed items)
- comfortable
- Seating
- Chair- ideal seating such as a cozy and supportive chair that you can sit in with a straight back and feet touching the floor
- Floor cushions, pillows, mat- you may use them to position and bolster your body for comfort and protect your body when performing postures
- Seating
- Temperature- neutral to warm (might consider having a blanket handy)
Other things you might consider when preparing your personal practice space include:
– an option for a practice space in nature/in an outdoor setting
– clearing the energy in a space by burning safe, resin or incense (frankincense and myrrh)
– having a journal and writing utensil to record your thoughts, insights and experiences (can also be a electronic device such as a tablet/computer or voice recorder)
You can prepare your mind-body for your initial session and practice with a spiritual bath also referred to as a salt bath. Side Note: Spiritual/Salt showers can also be done in the case that a bath is not preferred or feasible. A process for taking a Spiritual bath/shower is…
- Schedule a date with yourself when you can be alone and not disturbed for at least 30 minutes.
- In a clean tub and area run a warm bath that is slightly above body temperature (tub should be filled before you step into the bath)
- Put salt in your bath. The quanity is not very important a half cup to 1 full cup of salt to a full standard sized bath should be sufficient. The type of salt you use is as not very important. You can use Himalayan salt, sea salt, Epson salt, or even table salt if that is what you have. The salt aids in cleansing, detoxifying and purifying the mind-body-spirit.
- Immerse your body in the bath of approximately 20 minutes. You can use this time to relax, breath consciously and have your personal moment with self. You can also devote some time to thoughts of your desired outcomes for your session and any intentions you may have for your session and your life. At this time you can open yourself to receive that which is for your and that which you are divinely order to gain from your Tantric Wellness journey. Before you get out of the bath you want to make sure that your entire body, including your head has be submerged under the water, if only for a few seconds.
- After getting out of the bath you can allow yourself to air dry. If you desire to towel dry, you may want to dry yourself from your head downward.
- If you choose you can lay and relax for moments after your bath with a heart of gratitude reflex on your bath and soak up/ take in the full experience.
Note: Bubbles (soap) and essential oils added to the bath is okay to have but definitely not a must have. They can add to the overall experience depending on their properties, for example rosemary, sandalwood and lavender essential oils have relaxing, stress reducing properties among other things.
Side Note: Candles, although optional to the purpose of this bath, around your bath can help create a mood of tranquility and relaxation and also give you points of focus if you desire.
